The manager will be a hands-on individual that is responsible for helping to ensure the proper, safe and environmentally compliant operations, maintenance and administration of the scrap department and surrounding yard.  Works under limited supervision.

Essential Functions and Duties

1. Operations (Not all duties listed below apply to every facility. Responsibilities may vary based on location)

a. Directly supervise all facility employees, equipment operators, and support staff, including assigning work, scheduling, performance management, training, and employee development.

b. Ensure safe, efficient, and compliant daily operations of assigned facility activities, which may include scrap metal recycling, C&D processing, composting, shingle recycling, public drop-off recycling, transfer operations, and material recovery activities.

c. Oversee facility compliance with all applicable company policies, safety procedures, environmental regulations, permits, and governmental requirements.

d. Manage receiving, processing, storage, and shipment of materials while maintaining site organization and operational efficiency.

e. Promote recycling, environmental stewardship, and positive customer service throughout facility operations.

f. Handle customer, vendor, and public inquiries and/or complaints

g. Monitor staffing levels and operational needs to ensure adequate coverage and productivity.

h. Maintain accurate operational records, reports, inspections, and documentation as required by company policy and regulatory agencies

i. Perform the duties of facility personnel as needed. This is a working management position that may require operating equipment and machinery, directing traffic, operating scales, inspecting incoming materials, monitoring unloading activities, performing housekeeping duties, and assisting with material processing.

j. Identify opportunities for operation improvements, increased efficiencies, cost savings, and enhanced safety performance

2. Maintenance

a. Maintains the physical appearance and machinery of the entire yard – responsible for submitting work orders for repairs and ordering supplies

b. Coordinate and monitor preventative maintenance and repair activities for all facility equipment, machinery, buildings, and infrastructure.

c. Conduct routine inspections of equipment, operational areas, and facility grounds to identify safety concerns, maintenance issues, and opportunities for improvement

3. Administration

a. Completes and maintains daily logs, incident reports, and other required paperwork or reports as required

b. Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of new technologies, laws, and government regulations that can affect the industry

c. Complete training requirements as requested by the upper management

4. Safety

a. Following pre-established safety policies and guidelines

b. Wearing PPE as required while on facility grounds and conducting work-related business

c. Following company rules and federal, state, and local laws

d. Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards

5. Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience and Qualifications

Education:  High School diploma or GED preferred.

Experience:   2 years of hands on experience in the operations of a C&D MRF, Transfer Station, Recycling Yard, etc in the solid waste field or similar.  Experience operating equipment and managing others

Qualifications:  1 Year previous management experience; must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable; certified forklift operator; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
