Composting Operations Intern

Location: ReserveTownship Facility, 408 Hoffman Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236

Position Type: Internship(Seasonal or Semester-Based) – Part-Time or Full-Time (flexible based onavailability)

Work Location: On-site at the composting operation (outdoor work environment)

PositionSummary

Michael Brothers is seeking a motivated and dependable intern to support day-to-day operations of our composting program under ourcurrent operating permit. This role will focus primarily on assisting with compliant composting practices, site upkeep, and required documentation.Additional duties will be assigned as needed to support facility operations.

This internship is ideal for someone interested inagriculture, composting, environmental operations, soil science,sustainability, or waste management.

PrimaryResponsibilities (Composting Operations / Permit Support)

·      Support daily composting operations inaccordance with the facility’s current operating permit requirements

·      Monitor compost conditions and assist withprocess control, including temperature monitoring and record keeping, moisture observation and adjustments, and material blending and pile management

·      Maintain and organize required documentation and operational logs

·      Assist with material receiving and tracking (as applicable)

·      Support compost turning schedules and general workflow planning

·      Maintain composting areas in a clean, safe, and inspection-ready condition

·      Identify and report issues that could affect operational performance or permit compliance

·      Assist with routine equipment checks and report maintenance needs

AdditionalDuties (As Needed)

·      General labor support around the facility andyard

·      Facilitating the loading/unloading of materials and assisting with site organization

·      Supporting other operational tasks as assigned

Qualifications

·      Interest in composting, environmental operations, agriculture, or sustainability

·      Understanding of composting testing, windrow sizing, etc regulations and requirements

·      Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

·      Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow procedures

·      Ability to work independently after training and take direction from supervisors

·      Basic mechanical aptitude is a plus (not required)

·      Valid driver’s license preferred (not required)

PhysicalRequirements

·      Ability to work outdoors on uneven surfaces andin an active work environment

·      Comfort working near heavy equipment

Schedule

Flexible scheduling available. Typical hours may include weekday shifts with occasional weekend work depending on operational needs.

Compensation

Hourly wage based on experience and availability (to be determined).
