Michael Brothers Earns RCI Certification, Setting a New Standard for Construction Debris Recycling

At Michael Brothers Companies, we've always believed that responsible recycling is about more than collecting construction debris. It's about ensuring materials are recovered responsibly, reported accurately, and managed with transparency from the moment they arrive at our facility until they reach their next use.

That's why we're proud to announce that Michael Brothers has earned certification through the Recycling Certification Institute (RCI), becoming the first construction and demolition (C&D) material recovery facility in Western Pennsylvania to receive this nationally recognized third-party certification.

What is RCI Certification?

RCI Certification is an independent verification program that evaluates construction and demolition recycling facilities against nationally recognized standards for operational excellence, material recovery, documentation, and reporting.

Unlike self-reported recycling claims, certified facilities undergo a comprehensive third-party review of their operations, quality control procedures, downstream material management, and reporting practices. The result is greater transparency and confidence for customers who depend on accurate recycling and diversion reporting.

Why It Matters

Whether you're a contractor, architect, developer, municipality, or project owner, you deserve confidence in what happens to your construction debris after it leaves the jobsite.

RCI Certification provides independent verification that our recycling processes meet nationally recognized standards and that our diversion reporting is backed by documented procedures and responsible material management.

For customers, that means:

• Greater confidence in recycling and diversion reporting

• Independently verified recycling practices

• Enhanced support for LEED and sustainability initiatives

• Increased transparency throughout the recycling process

• A trusted partner committed to environmental responsibility

Raising the Standard in Western Pennsylvania

For more than 50 years, Michael Brothers has invested in building one of the region's most comprehensive recycling operations.

At our Reserve Township Material Recovery Facility, incoming construction debris is carefully processed to recover valuable materials including:

• Concrete

• Brick

• Asphalt

• Wood

• Drywall

• Metals

• Cardboard

• Plastics

• Other recyclable commodities

Recovered concrete and masonry materials are crushed and beneficially reused as aggregate base, helping keep valuable materials in productive use while reducing landfill disposal.

Every load processed represents another opportunity to recover resources, reduce environmental impact, and support a more sustainable construction industry.

A Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Earning RCI Certification is an important milestone, but it's not the finish line.

"Our commitment has always been to do things the right way," said Tom Milani, Chief Executive Officer of Michael Brothers Companies. "RCI Certification validates the investments we've made in our people, our facilities, and our processes while reinforcing our commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible recycling. We're proud to bring this level of independently verified recycling to Western Pennsylvania."

As construction continues to evolve, so will we. Michael Brothers will continue investing in technology, operational excellence, and innovative recycling solutions that help our customers recover more materials, reduce landfill disposal, and achieve their sustainability goals.

Partner With Confidence

Whether you're managing a commercial construction project, pursuing LEED certification, developing new infrastructure, or simply looking for a trusted recycling partner, Michael Brothers is committed to providing transparent, independently verified recycling solutions backed by nationally recognized standards.

We look forward to helping build a stronger, more sustainable Western Pennsylvania, one project at a time.
